Sobeys MasterCard

Food, shelter, and clothing are basic needs for our daily lives. Without these basic needs we wouldn’t survive. For many years now, Sobeys introduced the “Sobeys MasterCard”. With this MasterCard you earn one point for every dollar you spent. At the end of each year your points get added up to whatever total you’ve achieved and then you redeem your point for free groceries at Sobeys. Now isn’t that just awesome! Who wouldn’t want free groceries?  Times are hard! Do you guys know of any other perks of using a MasterCard?

Sobeys on Social Networks

I’ve been looking for an idea to blog about and while on the Sobeys website I found out that they are on social networks such as Facebook. You can actually talk to someone that works in the head office in Sobeys and find out pretty much anything you want instead of calling the headquarters. Now that’s pretty cool!  Every day they update their statues with easy recipes to cook, how to earn some extra money, what your favourite kind of soup is, etc… With all these statues people can share their opinions or idea’s and give the grocery store Sobeys some useful feedback, so they can improve their great work to being successful. I personally found this a great idea to catch customer’s attention.

Sobeys Contributions

Some of Sobeys contributions consist of involvement in health and education. We all need to live a good and healthy life and perform our best in school. Sobeys is in a partnership with “Breakfast for Learning” to support child nutrition programs at school. With this being done studies show that students who eat nutritional goods for breakfast perform better in school. Sobeys also supports charities such as Kids Help Phone, Easter Seals, Canadian Cancer Society, and community food banks all across Canada. Another thing that came up and I had to show you guys were… From Sobeys own website they have a statement that I would like to share. “Grocery stores are at the heart of community life-and at Sobeys, we always strived to show leadership in the communities where we operate. Indeed, ‘Proudly Serve Our Communities’ is one of our core values.” As you can see Sobeys is a key factor in contributions all across Canada.

Going Green?

We all want to live in a healthy environment, so why damage it by purchasing plastic bags when they are one of the main causes of damages to the environment. The more plastic bags that we use, it builds up on our natural landscape and damages the environment. In other words, what I am trying to say is Sobeys has changed a few of their actions to help out the environment.   

These consist of the following actions:

• They have introduced a few years back in 2006 the reusable grocery bag “Green Bag for Life”.
• Cashiers add one more item to the customer’s shopping bag, which reduced bags by 20 percent.
•   In-store plastic bag recycling.
• Using stickers as a proof of purchase on larger items.
• A 5-cent fee to plastic bags was added in the year 2009.

With these actions listed above Sobeys is encouraging their customers to support reusable choices and to benefit our environment as much as possible.
